Wednesday aren't likely to see the German coach another game for the club again.

Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl isn't going to be rushed into making a decision on his future amid interest from Southampton and some German clubs.

The talented 36-year-old boss' base camp for the 2025/26 campaign is unlikely to be at Hillsborough. The end of the season seemingly triggered him to drop more and more hints that he sees himself managing other clubs than the Owls going forward.

Rohl has said he "had a fantastic time," with the club to German outlet Kicker, and suggested that he would like a move back to his home country of Germany or up to the Premier League in the future.

His clues and cryptic messages about his future really began after his players weren't paid their March wages on time by owner Dejphon Chansiri, who the manager has said he has an agreement with about his future - Wednesday have denied this, though.

Danny Rohl won't make snap decision on his future

Because of all the seeming signs that are pointing him away from the Owls, many of which he has put up, it really is tough to see how he stays, but his contract stipulates that he will stick about until the summer of 2027, leaving him in a slightly difficult position if he does want to leave the club. Any team that wants to bring him in will have to pay Wednesday some level of compensation.

Rohl is not short of options, according to The Athletic, and the Daily Mail have now said that he will not be rushed into making any decisions about his future. They also believe that it is his intention to leave Hillsborough this summer.

Southampton and clubs from Germany, like RB Leipzig and Wolfsburg, have been linked with Rohl by the national outlet. They added that more options for Rohl, in this country and at home, are set to become more apparent in the coming days.

The Saints may be taken off the 36-year-old's board, though, as RC Lens boss Will Still is in advanced talks to become their next manager amid Still's desire to return to the United Kingdom. On the flip side, there is no guarantee that St Mary's where Rohl previously worked as an assistant, would be the Owls boss' preferred option, as per The Athletic.

Rohl can't afford a Hillsborough U-turn at this point

If the German does say goodbye to Wednesday this summer, it won't have been the way that many of the club's supporters would've wanted it to end, but there will certainly still be a level of amicability between the boss and the fans. He has done so much for the club, saving them from relegation and then stabilising them in the Championship, that he will always be revered.

But, and it is a big but, if Rohl is still the Wednesday boss come the start of next season, you've got to imagine that there's going to be an odd feeling to it. Not an angry or bitter one, but the Wednesday players and supporters will all know that they weren't what the boss wanted this summer. Going back to the club surely can't be an option for Rohl at this point.
