Italian match official Davide Massa has been appointed by UEFA as the on-field referee to oversee proceedings between SK Slovan Bratislava and Manchester City this week.
Manchester City will be hoping to return to winning ways both in the season and in Europe’s premier club competition, having drawn their matchday one clash against Inter Milan 0-0 at home, and being held to a 1-1 draw by Newcastle on Saturday afternoon.
As for Tuesday night’s hosts in Slovakia, Slovan Bratislava will be hoping to redeem themselves after a crushing defeat on matchday one, with Scottish Premier League side Celtic putting five goals past them at Celtic Park.
Tuesday night will also be Manchester City’s first ever meeting with Slovakian opposition, with Slovakia becoming the 27th different nation that they have faced a club from in major European competition.
Ahead of the meeting between SK Slovan Bratislava and Manchester City, UEFA have now announced the list of match officials to oversee proceedings at Tehelné pole!
An all-Italian team of match officials will oversee proceedings in Bratislava on Tuesday night, with the group led by the experienced Davide Massa, with the 43-year-old taking charge of his eighth game across all competitions this season.
In his seven matches so far this campaign, Massa has issued a total of 26 yellow cards, awarding one straight red card, and issuing two penalty kicks in the process, with matches overseen in five competitions including the Saudi Super Cup.
Massa has officiated Manchester City matches on three previous occasions, with Pep Guardiola’s side winning two of their outings against Sevilla and Olympiacos, with the only draw coming against Borussia Dortmund in Germany.
Accompanying Davide Massa on the field at SK Slovan Bratislava will be Italian assistant referees Filippo Meli (47) and Stefano Alassio (44).
Overseeing proceedings from a media booth will be the allocated Video Assistant Referee, Marco Di Bello (43) , accompanied by the Assistant Video Assistant Referee, Valerio Marini (41).
37-year-old Simone Sozza has been allocated to the position of Fourth Official in Bratislava, overseeing matters between the two dugouts manned by Vladimir Weiss Snr. and Pep Guardiola.
