David De Gea’s double penalty save against Milan is even more impressive when considering that the Spaniard had saved just three spot kicks in his last eight years at Manchester United.

As reported by TNT Sports on X, formerly Twitter, De Gea had only saved three penalty kicks during his last eight years at Manchester United. Last night, he nearly matched his record by saving two penalties in a game.

De Gea left Old Trafford at the end of his contract in 2023 after 12 years at the club.

He joined Fiorentina on a free transfer in the summer of 2024 after taking a sabbatical.

De Gea explained at his unveiling press conference in August that he had been uninterested in offers from other clubs for a year after leaving Old Trafford. He has signed a one-year contract at the Stadio Franchi, with an option for a further campaign.

The 33-year-old already saved a penalty kick in a Conference League shoot-out in August, helping Fiorentina beat Akademia Puskas and qualify for the league phase.
