A disastrous fans forum from Owls owner Dejphon Chansiri could drive a further wedge between him and boss Danny Rohl.
Sheffield Wednesday find themselves in a positive place on the pitch heading into the second half of the season.
The Owls currently sit four points off a play-off place under Danny Rohl heading into Sunday’s crunch showdown with Leeds United, with the Yorkshire outfit taking 37 points from their 26 Championship outings so far this term.
The January transfer window has arrived at a key time for Wednesday to bolster the squad ahead of a demanding second period of the season, with the squad needing to be well-equipped for what is set to head their way.
However, off the pitch, the disastrous ownership of Dejphon Chansiri has taken another dark twist, after the controlling shareholder held a forum last night to discuss club matters.
What unfolded brought shame to the club and undoubtedly left supporters feeling an outpouring of rage, and this kind of behaviour from Chansiri could end up driving Danny Rohl away from the club, derailing their current promotion push.
In a forum conducted last night that lasted around five hours, Chansiri sat with the local press and fans to discuss the latest ongoings, and he continued to wedge a further disconnect between himself and the rest of the club, particularly boss Danny Rohl.
In a shock turn of events, the owner revealed Rohl hasn’t approached him about transfer targets for the January window, insisting the pair haven’t spoken since December.
Reported by journalist Rob Staton, Chansiri said: “If he’s (Rohl) not talking to me what can I say? If he needs anything, he needs to come to me and tell me. It’s not up to me to say ‘please, please, do something’… I look forward to talking to him if he wants to talk to me. Actually, I’m the boss, my employee needs to talk to me.”
Rohl had previously suggested to BBC Sheffield that the fans could ask about the transfer window at the forum, with Chansiri responding: “I want to say he’s very brave to say that.”
With tensions appearing to be boiling over between Rohl and the hierarchy, it seems to have arrived at the worst possible time given the potential for Wednesday to achieve something special this season, and a potential departure of Rohl is likely to send the club spiraling down the division due to a lack of stability on the playing side.
Danny Rohl has been an immense credit to Sheffield Wednesday since his arrival, drastically turning around the club’s fortunes and getting supporters believing that a return to the Premier League could be on the cards.
However, it has been proved that he doesn’t share a strong relationship with Dejphon Chansiri, which doesn’t fill anybody connected with the club with positivity about the long-term future of the German coach.
The 35-year-old former Bayern Munich assistant hasn’t been short of interest from his successful spell at Hillsborough, as Premier League outfit Southampton touted him as a potential replacement for Russell Martin, and he may now be regretting not taking the plunge to the South Coast.
At such a young age, Rohl has so much potential to reach the pinnacle of his coaching career, and it won’t be too long before he lands a top job in one of the major European leagues.
The Wednesday faithful will still hope that Rohl's journey can continue in Yorkshire, but such questionable comments from the owner could persuade him to part ways if he is linked with another vacancy during the remainder of the season.
This poses a serious threat to Wednesday’s fortunes, with all the hard work so far this term at risk of unraveling if Rohl wishes to depart.
Such toxicity isn’t good for the club given their position in the table, and more unsavoury scenes at the top could be the undoing of a promotion push.
