Derek McInnes & Kevin Muscat touted as next Rangers manager

The one common puzzle for Rangers fans now that the lion’s share finally accept Philippe Clement isn’t doing a good job at the club at all, is ‘who could do a better job’.

It’s a frequent gnashing of teeth as supporters try to justify keeping Clement on the basis of ‘who else do we get’.

Well, some have already repeated Derek McInnes and Kevin Muscat’s names a few times, so let’s not pretend there isn’t a single manager on planet earth who can do the job.

Are they the right men? We don’t know that, but we know the right man or men are out there.

When Rangers ended up in the dirt under Paul Le Guen, Walter came in and saved the day. When Rangers ended up a mess under Pedro, Steven Gerrard came in and stabilised things. He beat Celtic at his second attempt. When Rangers ended up lost after Dick Advocaat Alex McLeish came in and fixed so so much.

So let’s not try to act like there’s no one out there.

‘We have no money’.

No we don’t, but Walter made a champion out of Kirk Broadfoot, and that shows what a great manager can do.

A great manager doesn’t grow on trees, true, but Rangers’ last two choices were dreadful – we omit Steven Gerrard and Giovanni van Bronckhorst from this, they were Rangers class (sort of) in the end, and time is looking back on them kindly, as it should.

But Beale and Clement have been poor, very poor, and while Gerrard did get the sort of time Clement hasn’t, Gerrard beat Celtic on his second attempt.

Clement hasn’t come close after 5.

Rangers’ next hunt for a manager (and let’s face it, it’s into that territory) has to be for a man who knows what this club means, what winning is all about, how to win, and is a certified winner with a must-win club already.

Only Kevin Muscat seems to fit that, but we wouldn’t dare to pick the next boss.
