Everton Weigh Move for Gustavo Hamer as Midfield Overhaul Begins

Sheffield United Star on Premier League Radar

Everton are assessing a potential summer swoop for Gustavo Hamer, as reported by TEAMtalk. The Sheffield United midfielder is seen as a viable target for clubs seeking creativity and proven output, especially after the Blades missed out on promotion back to the Premier League.

Hamer, 27, has caught the attention of multiple top-flight sides after a strong campaign that yielded 10 goals and 8 assists across competitions. Operating primarily as an attacking midfielder but also comfortable on the left, Hamer’s versatility fits Everton’s profile as they look to strengthen two key areas.

Midfield Departures Open Up Space

The Toffees have already confirmed that Abdoulaye Doucouré will leave the club this summer, creating an urgent need for fresh options in midfield. Although Everton are working on a permanent deal for Charly Alcaraz, who joined on loan from Flamengo, there is belief that Hamer could offer an additional attacking dimension.

Hamer has top-flight pedigree too. Despite Sheffield United’s relegation in 2023/24, he contributed four goals and seven assists — evidence of his ability to perform at Premier League level even in a struggling side.

As journalist Graeme Bailey reported for EFL Analysis, Fulham and Brentford are also “huge admirers” of the Dutch-born playmaker, and have been “watching him closely” in recent weeks.

Price Tag and Competition Could Complicate Move

With Leeds United gaining promotion, their long-standing interest could resurface. Last summer, a £13 million bid was turned down. This time, the asking price may be closer to £20 million, which could prove a sticking point depending on Everton’s financial flexibility.

Still, reports suggest Everton have already made an “enquiry” for Hamer, as journalist Ben Jacobs confirmed. “Sheff Utd want to keep Hamer but if the player pushes for a move then they could be forced into selling him for the right price.”

David Moyes, now overseeing recruitment with a strong emphasis on Premier League readiness, is known for spotting Championship talent with potential to thrive in the top tier. Past successes like Tim Cahill from Millwall and Jarrod Bowen from Hull City underline Moyes’ confidence in the route Hamer has taken.

At present, no official bid has been submitted. But with Leeds circling and other suitors lurking, Everton may need to act quickly if they wish to add Hamer to their ranks.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

Everton’s link with Gustavo Hamer is both intriguing and encouraging. After the departure of Doucouré, there’s a visible void in the midfield — not just in work rate, but in goals and ingenuity. Hamer could be the kind of acquisition who fills that gap while adding a layer of flexibility that Everton’s squad has often lacked.

The reality is this: if Everton are serious about rebuilding under Moyes, they’ll need to shop smart. Hamer is 27, in his prime, proven in both the Championship and the Premier League, and hungry for a club that matches his ambition. That profile fits the current need at Goodison.

Of course, the £20m price tag gives pause — especially with other areas needing investment — but there’s value in what Hamer brings. He’s not just a filler, he’s a creator, a goal threat, and someone who can carry the ball through midfield with conviction.

With Leeds back in the Premier League and other clubs circling, Everton need to move with purpose. The midfield rebuild has already begun with Alcaraz — adding Hamer would be a signal of intent and a step towards re-establishing control in the engine room.
