Inter Milan goalkeeper Yann Sommer finally got his clean sheet in Serie A after weeks of issues yesterday against Roma.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Last season, Sommer rarely had to pick the ball up out of his own net.

Clean sheets were a common occurrence for the former Bayern Munich and Borussia Monchengladbach keeper. So much so, in fact, that they were more common than not.

This season, however, it has not been that way. At least not at the start.

Sommer did manage to keep the likes of Lecce and Atalanta scoreless in August.

And in the Champions League, the 35-year-old is yet to concede a single goal. He kept clean sheets against the likes of Manchester City and Red Star Belgrade.

But in Serie A, Sommer had conceded in consecutive matches against the likes of Monza, AC Milan, Udinese, and Torino.

And in fact, Inter conceded two goals apiece in the three most recent matches before the international break.

For Sommer, therefore, the priority will clearly have been to keep the opposition out for an entire ninety minutes in a Serie A match.

Roma weren’t going to make it easy for Sommer and Inter.

The Giallorossi did not exactly pepper Inter’s goal with shots yesterday evening. But they put the Nerazzurri under plenty of pressure.

Particularly after going a goal down, Roma pushed forward.

The Giallorossi had most of possession, and kept a lot of it around Inter’s penalty area.

But the Nerazzurri stayed switched-on.

It was a disciplined and organized defensive performance from Inter. And there were plenty of moments of excellent last-ditch defending.

And when all else failed, Sommer more than did his part.

The Swiss capped off a sequence of fine stops with a good save on a long-range drive by Matias Soule.

And just like that, Sommer finally has his clean sheet in Serie A.
