An injury to Piotr Zielinski will give a big opportunity to Davide Frattesi for Inter Milan ahead of Sunday’s Serie A clash with Roma.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Midfielder Zielinski is set to be out for Sunday’s match against Roma.

The Polish international has not picked up a major injury. He has only suffered a slight thigh strain and could already return for Inter’s next match, against Young Boys in the Champions League.

However, the 30-year-old’s absence will still mean that for at least one match Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will find his options in midfield limited.

But that won’t necessarily be a problem for Inzaghi and Inter.

Over the summer, the Nerazzurri took strides to bolster the depth in all areas of midfield. And particularly in midfield.

That means that Inter’s squad should be able to accommodate at least one or two notable injuries without too many problems.

And Frattesi is a big part of that. Having spent last season settling in at Inter, the Italian international has already had a more prominent role in the midfield rotations this campaign.

Before the break, Frattesi had his biggest chance of the season in the starting eleven.

The 25-year-old started two consecutive Serie A matches, against Udinese and Torino.

This was the result of an injury to Nicolo Barella.

Barella is now back fit and available. However, there are certainly one or two questions about whether the 27-year-old can slot straight back into the team.

Therefore, the Corriere predicts, Barella likely won’t start against Roma.

And that means a chance for Frattesi in the starting eleven once again.

And even if the former Sassuolo midfielder does not start, it is virtually certain that he’ll come off the bench at some stage.
