Chelsea have already put the work in on a transfer deal to bring a new striker to the club before the Club World Cup starts this June.
The Blues were continuously linked with new strikers all through the January window but in the end they didn’t get one, and didn’t do much at all in all honesty.
The transfer window closed a couple of weeks back now and it was a very bland and strange one for Chelsea. They only made one signing and he is a player who is just expected to play as a deep backup option this season and then probably go on loan in the summer.
Other than that, Chelsea just loaned a bunch of players out with the only permanent one being Cesare Casadei to Torino in the end.
Our own writer Simon Phillips has the drop on the new striker news over on his Substack site today, and it’s good news if you believe Chelsea need a different profile number 9 to challenge Nicolas Jackson.

Phillips reports:
‘Our source has said that Chelsea have now laid down significant ground work to sign Liam Delap in the summer. There are no claims of this being a pre-deal agreed or anything yet, but a lot of the work was done in the January window when Chelsea spoke to Ipswich Town and the agents of the player on a number of occasions.
‘The work is done for the summer and our source says that if all goes to plan, then Chelsea will be looking to get him signed on ahead of the CWC.
‘It is important to note that nothing is done here yet, and Chelsea are also continuing to look at and talk to other names as well just in case they cannot get Delap done, or any other better deals or opportunities presents itself.
‘Source says Chelsea continue to hold talks with Benjamin Sesko’s people and have kept that line open as well, and there is still dream interest in Alexander Isak.
‘However, on the latter, our source says that any deal for Isak would be too expensive, and the player is also happy at Newcastle.’
