Spanish news outlet Fichajes has reported that Barcelona want to strengthen their right-back spot in the summer transfer window and want to sign Daniel Munoz from Crystal Palace. The player also has a release clause of €25 million, which is well within the reach of the Catalan club.

Munoz has been an integral part of the playing XI of Palace. He has been contributing effectively in both attacks and defense. The Colombian international plays as a wing-back for the Premier League side. His contract with Palace lasts till 2027, and hence Palace won’t be forced to sell the player anytime soon.

Barcelona have played Jules Kounde in the right-back position in the last two seasons. Kounde has been performing really well in that position despite being a centre-back. However, the Frenchman has received no rest, and hence the Catalan club does need a player who can be a backup for Kounde and can alternate with him.

He is a versatile Colombian footballer known for his adaptability, playing effectively as a right-back or wing-back for Crystal Palace and the Colombian national team. His strengths include robust physical presence, tactical intelligence, and technical skill. Muñoz excels in both offensive and defensive roles, with notable stats in passing accuracy, ball recoveries, and duels won. His work ethic, combined with his ability to contribute goals and assists, marks him as an elite player in his position. Therefore, he can go on to become one of the good signings for the Catalan club.

What could be the problem for Barca?

Munoz has conceded 25 goals and kept seven clean sheets in 23 matches in the Premier League 2024/2025 season. That means when he is on the pitch, his team concedes a goal every 79 minutes. Moreover, he’s made 3.80 tackles and 1.19 interceptions for every 90 minutes he was on the pitch. Munoz is also racking up about 2.33 clearances at the same time. His total G/A (goals + assists) is five for this season.

Now, the release clause might turn out to be a problem for Barcelona if they have to pay it one go. However, Joan Laporta and Co. might negotiate with Palace for a lower fee and also propose a higher wage package to the player. Now, it remains to be seen if Barcelona does get the deal done in the summer transfer window.
