FC Barcelona continues to ramp up preparation ahead of their game against Getafe this weekend despite having just beaten Real Betis in the Copa del Rey. It’s been a while since the team has been in action against La Liga.
The last time Hansi Flick’s men played in La Liga, they were in the midst of a very poor run of results, despite playing some good football, especially against Atletico Madrid. However, things seem to have changed since the turn of the year.
An away trip to Getafe is never going to be an easy encounter. There cannot be two teams with more contrasting game styles than Barcelona and the Madrid-based side. Jose Bordalas’ tactical imprint is basically an antithesis to that of Hansi Flick’s.
Interestingly, Barcelona are set to welcome another player back from injury this weekend. As per Mundo Deportivo, Andreas Christensen continues to ramp up preparation as he looks to make a successful comeback against Getafe.
The Dane has not featured for Barcelona since the very first game of the season where he played a few minutes in the second half. Since then, however, he has been out injured and Hansi Flick cannot recover the 28-year-old in better time.
With Iñigo Martínez out with an injury that will keep him out for around a month, it leaves Hansi Flick with Ronald Araújo and Pau Cubarsí in central defense with Eric Garcia to backup. Christensen will give the German coach the option to rotate the Uruguayan who has just returned from a serious injury himself.
Andreas Christensen has been one of Barcelona’s best signings in the past few years and just because he has been out for a few months, it is very easy to forget his contributions prior to that. The Dane’s potential return is definitely good news.
It remains to be seen how many minutes Hansi Flick hands Christensen against Getafe. The German coach might use him only if Barcelona are leading comfortably in the second half and let’s wait and see how it plays out.
