Benjamin Pavard says that next month’s Champions League tie between Bayern Munich and Inter Milan is “50/50.”
The Frenchman spoke to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews.
Next month, Inter Milan and Bayern Munich square off in the Champions League.
The first leg of the quarterfinal tie will be played at the Allianz Arena in Munich. Then, the San Siro will play host to the decisive second leg.
The Italian and German league leaders are two of the biggest and most historic names in European football.
Therefore, next month’s tie promises to be a real marquee affair.
One player who next month’s Champions League tie will have a special meaning for is defender Benjamin Pavard.
The 29-year-old was a Bayern player for four years, between 2019 and 2023. Then, in the summer of 2023, he joined Inter.
Pavard won a slew of league titles and other domestic silverware with Bayern. Then, since his arrival at Inter, he has continued to win trophies.
One trophy that World Cup-winner Pavard has yet to lift, however, is the Champions League.
Inter Milan defender Benjamin Pavard admitted that returning to Bavaria to face Bayern will be “very special” for him.
“I still have a lot of friends there. From Coman and Upamecano to Raphael Guerreiro.”

“Olise just signed there,” Pavard said of the former Crystal Palace winger and his France international teammate. Olise has certainly made a major impact this season.
Pavard looked back, “I grew a lot there over four wonderful years.”
“I won everything there.”
“But now, I’m defending the colours of the Nerazzurri,” Pavard made clear.
The Frenchman anticipated that “It will be a very balanced tie, 50/50.”
“Whoever defends better will win,” he added.
Pavard noted that Bayern “love possession, and they attack with quality down the flanks.”
“From Gnabry to Sane,” the Inter defender noted the German giants’ array of options in wide areas.
“We’ll have to keep our heads when we have the ball. And be prepare to resist them defensively.”
Pavard admitted that “there will be moments where we have to suffer.”
“But we’ll have our chances,” he added.
Meanwhile, facing Bayern on the European stage inevitably brings memories of Inter’s 2009-10 Treble triumph. It was the Bavarians who the Nerazzurri defeated in that season’s Champions League final.”
Pavard is not hiding from the ambitions to repeat that historical feat. “It might seem trivial to say – but in football everything’s possible,” said the Frenchman.
“Even the Treble.”
“You have to keep that spirit until the end. And then see what happens.”
Pavard said that he’s “confident.”
“In training, you push yourself to the max. Of course, I never give up an inch. I can never get enough of winning.”
