Frank Lampard is looking to sign Chelsea youngster Sam Rak-Sakyi on loan as he sets about strengthening his Coventry City side according to reports.

Rak-Sakyi is another highly regarded talent to come through Chelsea’s Cobham academy and the midfielder has made a handful of appearances for Enzo Maresca this season.

He started his first game for the club in the Conference League against Astana and put in a very impressive performance, arguably outshining the more established Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Rak-Sakyi a target for Lampard

Rak-Sakyi has made four appearances for the Blues this season and is set to add to that against Morecambe in the FA Cup on Saturday, where he could be in line for a start.

The teenager has been at Chelsea since the age of eight and signed a two year deal with the Blues back in August 2024.

It seems his performances haven’t gone unnoticed and The Evening Standard have reported Coventry City are interested in taking the midfielder on loan.

The report adds that talks are scheduled for next week following initial contact from the Sky Blues about a six month loan deal.

For Rak-Sakyi it would be a huge opportunity to gain more first team experience and test himself at a very good level, and a first loan to the Championship is no easy task, but he seems like he’s got the quality and the mentality to deal with it.

It wouldn’t be the first time Lampard has used his Chelsea connections to help him in the transfer market, and when he was manager of Derby County he took Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori on loan, with both having successful spells at Pride Park.

Whilst Rak-Sakyi will be gaining experience by training with the first team, the opportunity to go and play regularly is invaluable, and with no Conference League football until March his minutes at Chelsea are likely to be very limited over the second half of the season.
