Lee Carsley says Harry Kane will not be fit to start England's Nations League game against Greece but is hopeful the captain will be available to face Finland.

"We're not ruling him out yet but he won't start the game," Carsley said ahead of the Nations League double-header. "Hopefully he'll be in contention for Sunday but time will tell. It's not something we should be rushing."

Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins and Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke are jostling to deputise for Kane, while Jack Grealish is also a doubt with a knock.

Morgan Gibbs-White, Ezri Konsa and Kobbie Mainoo all pulled out of the original squad following last weekend's domestic matches, with the Football Association initially saying they would not be replaced in the squad.

But Carsley called up two more of his former Under-21 charges, Newcastle full-back Tino Livramento and Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones to leave him with 23 players.

"Jack went down with a minor knock in training which put us down a couple more because we were still unsure on Harry," Carsley said.

"Tino and Curtis cover a lot of positions between them because of their versatility."

In Kane's absence, John Stones and Declan Rice are contenders to captain the side.
