Azeez joined Reading from Wealdstone in September 2019, and after a spell out on loan with Bracknell Town, he established himself in the first team in the 2021-22 season.

The 23-year-old went on to make 89 appearances for the Royals, and his performances were one of the main positives during an incredibly turbulent period at the Select Car Leasing Stadium amid ongoing ownership issues.

Azeez enjoyed the best year of his career last season, and after playing a key role as Reading secured survival in League One, he made the move to Millwall in August for a reported fee of around £1 million.

While Royals supporters will not have been surprised to see another of their stars departing under the ownership of Dai Yongge, they will have been hugely disappointed to lose Azeez, and we looked at how he is getting on so far at The Den.

Reading manager Ruben Selles had been promised that he would be able to sign a replacement for Azeez following his departure, but after he was informed that would no longer be the case, the Spaniard publicly made his feelings clear about the situation.

"It is not an EFL problem, it is an internal problem. Somebody misunderstood the information so that is why I’m unhappy with that," Selles told the Reading Chronicle in August.

"When you allow that to happen - which I think was a good deal for the club and Femi - there are some moments when you should be able to get a replacement, get some contracts increased, an extra coach to improve the players or reinvest in the facilities. We cannot lose power and then not be able to replace. I’m not happy."

As it turned out, the Royals did sign winger Chem Campbell on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers on deadline day, and he has made a strong start to life at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, scoring two goals in his first five appearances, but it remains to be seen whether he will be able to reach the same heights as Azeez.

It was tough for Azeez to have too much of an impact in the game given that his side had just 20.5% possession against the high-flying Baggies, and he was replaced by Duncan Watmore in the 66th minute, but it seems he did enough to impress manager Neil Harris, who praised him in his post-match press conference.

"He [Femi Azeez] is finding his way back at the Championship level," Harris told the Southwark News.

"He’s played some games in the Championship, but he was 19 at the time. Then he dropped down and played the last couple of years in League One in a different style to us, so he’s got to adapt his game.

"I always say to the players if you’re not going to be the best with the ball…what you can control is your work ethic, your attitude to compete and the mentality that you’re going to be better than your opponent. And today I thought Femi showed us some real qualities and that he can be successful in a Millwall shirt."
