The Italian Tax Office has reportedly valued the Stadio Meazza and the area around it at €200m, a fee that Milan and Inter are required to share if they want to buy San Siro.

The rough path towards building a new stadium for Milan and Inter will soon have a new chapter.

According to Gazzetta, the Italian Tax Office will inform the Milanese clubs that the worth of the San Siro area, including the Stadio Meazza, is €200m. Milan’s municipality owns the stadium and the surrounding areas.

The pink paper quotes’ government sources’ and says that clubs will receive a formal communication between the end of October and the start of November.

Gazzetta highlights that the fee can’t be negotiated as it’s an official assessment made by authorities. Neither Inter nor Milan have officially reacted to the news, but informally, the Nerazzurri seem more open than Milan to buying San Siro.

In fact, the Rossoneri have already paid €40m to buy an area in San Donato, their primary option for building a new club-owned stadium.

At the same time, both clubs must consider that once and if they buy San Siro, they’ll have to invest more money in refurbishment work, and it’s still unclear whether they could bypass the historical monuments and cultural icons laws preventing the San Siro demolition.

“Wembley was also demolished, and it was even more iconic than San Siro,” Milan President Paolo Scaroni said earlier this month.

“The option they’re currently exploring is the original one, which is building a new stadium in the San Siro neighbourhood, keeping some elements of the old arena but providing the city with a new one. I also spoke with the Mayor about it this morning.

“Then, there’s the option of building a new stadium at San Donato Milanese too, which is a possibility, we already invested €40m on that.”
