An insight into the way in which the powers that be at Real Madrid discovered that star winger Vinícius Jr. would not be named the next Ballon d’Or winner has this afternoon been forthcoming.

The headline news across not only Madrid, but all of world football, on Monday, has of course come in the form of confirmation that Vinícius has missed out on the ‘Golden Ball’.

Previously considered an absolute lock to lift the prize, the Brazilian international is widely understood to have been pipped to the post in the voting, by Manchester City standout Rodri.

Those behind the scenes at the Santiago Bernabéu, in turn, have already made the call for a collective boycotting of tonight’s ceremony in Paris.

Just how, though, did Florentino Pérez and co. find out about Vinícius’ blow?

As alluded to above, an insight into as much has this afternoon been provided, by Blancos insider José Luis Sánchez.

Speaking during an appearance on El Chiringuito TV on Monday, Sánchez revealed that it was in fact Manchester City who made contact with their counterparts in Spain’s capital, to inform them that Rodri had been selected for the Ballon d’Or:
