Huddersfield Town may launch a daring bid to try and bring Nottingham Forest's Chief Football Officer to the club this summer.

According to TEAMtalk, Ross Wilson is a target for the Terriers, who are looking to restructure the football side of things at the John Smith's Stadium over this summer.

Forest have had a very successful season, challenging for a Champions League spot, with Wilson playing a key role in their recent recruitment. He also held the sporting director position at Ibrox for Rangers before moving to Nottinghamshire.

Huddersfield could be revolutionised by Nottingham Forest role

A move is yet to be made by Huddersfield, but, with Wilson reportedly open to the idea of a new challenge in League One, someone of the 41-year-old's ilk could be key to getting Town back to their former glory days when they had a successful football operator at the helm, according to Football League World's Terriers fan pundit, Graeme Rayner.

"The director of football position is one that we know from experience is really important to get right. When we had Stuart Webber and then the David Webb days, we got it right more often than we got it wrong, certainly in the first few years until we got relegated from the Premier League," Graeme told the website.

"Since then we've not really done it brilliantly, so I think to get someone who has a track record would be really, really vital. Someone like Ross Wilson could do a really good job for us, as long as they have an approach that suits the level we're at. Obviously, Forest have been at a very different level; we're shopping in a very different supermarket of players than they were.

"The money, the ability to attract players, etc, is very different to the divisions below. If not him, then someone like him (would be good), I suppose. We need to make an announcement soon, then hopefully someone like him will have a say on the type of manager or head coach we get in. It'll be interesting to see what happens."

Huddersfield have to make significant steps forward this summer

By any metric, 2024/25 was a very disappointing season for Huddersfield. The budget they had, the signings they made, the manager they had to start it off: nothing lived up to expectations. A club like the Terriers should not be finishing close to mid-table in League One. They were supposed to be genuine automatic promotion contenders.

Given all that, you'd be shocked if someone was shocked by the moves that Huddersfield are reportedly considering. And the truth is that those advancements must be made, because they won't want to get stuck in this League One cycle that clubs find it very hard to get out of.
