‘I don’t know how…’: McCoist can’t believe what he’s just seen from ‘poor’ Utd players

Manchester United are trailing 1-0 to Everton inside the first half hour at Goodison Park.
To say the visitors’ first-half showing has been dismal thus far would be an understatement. United are not being allowed even a moment to breathe against the relentless Toffees, who’ve been rewarded for their early efforts with an opener courtesy of Beto.
A corner was, for some reason, left bobbling inside the Reds’ area, with no player capable of getting a strong foot to it and firing the ball away from danger.
It then fell to the in-form frontman, and, despite his strike not being the cleanest, the phase of play culminated with the deadlock being broken – albeit after a four-minute VAR check. United’s woeful defending was then met with chants of “Going down, going down, going down” by the Goodison faithful.
Everton will hold a four-point advantage over the 20-time champions if they’re able to see out the result.

Reacting to the goal on TNT Sports’ commentary (cited by BBC Sport’s live blog), Ally McCoist said: “I think Beto is onside. Initially, it comes back off a defender – it is poor defending. I don’t know how United don’t clear it. Beto does the right thing – he knocks it into the ground and hits the target.
“The finish is magic. It was easy to put that over the bar. The defending from United, they had four opportunities to clear it.”
