Marcus Thuram and Moise Kean are playing catchup in the race to be Serie A top scorer after a four-goal Mateo Retegui show against Hellas Verona on Saturday.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

Strikers Thuram and Kean will be on opposite sides of today’s Serie A clash between Inter Milan and Fiorentina.

The two are among the three most prolific scorers in Serie A this season. Thuram has found the back of the net thirteen times in the league, and Kean fifteen.

That has made Marcus Thuram and Kean two of the leading contenders to finish as the top scorer in the Italian top flight this campaign.

However, the pair have faced formidable competition in the form of Atalanta’s Mateo Retegui.

Retegui has hit a new level in terms of goalscoring since his move to Atalanta last summer.

The former Genoa striker’s finishing ability and poacher’s instincts have served him well in a La Dea side that are a machine at creating chances for strikers.

Retegui has had his nose in front in the top scorer race for much of the season. But this weekend, he really opened up a gap at the top.

Retegui scored four of Atalanta’s five goals in a 5-0 thrashing of Hellas Verona.

Naturally, these kinds of individual performances in blowout matches can play a huge role in the top scorer race.

Retegui is now at twenty goals in Serie A. That gives Thuram and Kean a lot of work to do.

Inter striker Thuram has scored just once in 2025. That came in a victory over Empoli last month.

Meanwhile, Kean scored twice in Fiorentina’s shock 3-0 win over Inter last week. That certainly proved to be a real statement as far as the top scorer race, as Thuram flopped in that match.
