Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu will be aiming to punish Bayern Munich for their summer transfer soap opera in the Champions League.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Inter Milan take on Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarterfinals in April.
And there are a few players in the Nerazzurri squad for whom the showdown with the Bavarians will be particularly significant.
Inter have a couple of former Bayern players in their ranks. Both Benjamin Pavard and Yann Sommer joined Inter directly from the German giants in the summer of 2023.
But then, there is one player for whom the relationship with Bayern is a bit different.
Midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu did not become a Bayern Munich player last summer.
But it was not for any lack of trying by the Bavarian club.

Bayern made a big push to bring Calhanoglu to the Allianz Arena.
This included a contract offer to Calhanoglu that would have seen the Turkish international’s wages go up significantly.
Bayern were also reportedly ready to make a big in the region of Inter’s valuation for Calhanoglu.
However, the former AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder stopped the transfer rumours in their tracks himself.
Calhanoglu intervened directly. He released a statement directly confirming that he had no intention of leaving Inter.
So far, missing out on Hakan Calhanoglu last summer has not prevented Bayern from reasserting their domestic dominance.
But in Europe, the 31-year-old midfielder will be keen to show that he can make the difference against the team that had pushed for him to make the switch last summer.
