It was a busy first international break of the 2024/25 campaign, with a number of our Women’s first team players in action over the last 10 days.
Martha Thomas netted twice in as many games as Scotland progressed to the final qualifying round for the UEFA EURO 2025 after overcoming Anna Csiki’s Hungary across two-legs.
The forward grabbed the winner in Budapest to give her country a 1-0 advantage in the first leg before netting the final goal in the 4-0 win against Hungary at Hibernian’s Easter Road, taking her goal tally to seven goals in 12 games for her nation, while Anna started in both fixtures for Hungary to earn her 41st and 42nd cap respectively.
Scotland will now face Olga Ahtinen and Eveliina Summanen in the final round of the play-offs after Finland secured a 6-0 win over two legs against Montenegro. Eveliina played the full 90 in both fixtures, while Olga was named in the starting XI for the trip to Montenegro and was on the bench for the second leg in Tempere, Finland.
Amanda Nilden grabbed an assist and Matilda Vinberg came off the bench in Sweden’s 4-0 win over Luxembourg in the first leg of their EURO 2025 play-off tie. Amanda started and set up the second goal for her nation just after the half hour mark, while Matilda was introduced midway through the second half.
Sweden booked their spot in the final qualifying round of the play-offs with a thumping 8-0 win in the second leg, in which Amanda and Matilda were rested.
Jess Naz earned just her second cap for England as she was a second half substitute in their 4-3 defeat to Germany at Wembley Stadium.
The forward was then awarded her first start for the Lionesses just four days later and provided the assist for the opening goal in their 2-1 win over South Africa at Coventry City’s Ricoh Arena.
Clare Hunt started for Australia in their two friendlies against Switzerland and Germany. She completed the full 90 minutes as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Switzerland.
The defender then played the full 90 for their trip to Germany on Monday evening where she netted her first ever international goal to help the Matildas to a 2-1 win – their first victory over the European side in 19 years. Charlotte Grant was on the bench for both fixtures.
Becky Spencer played the full 90 for Jamaica in their 3-0 defeat to France on Friday evening. Drew Spence remained on the bench for the game.
Defender Luana Buhler was an ever present for Switzerland in their two friendlies over the international break. The 28-year-old was part of the backline that drew to Australia before helping them to an impressive 2-1 win over France on Tuesday evening.
Rounding up the younger age groups, Lenna Gunning-Williams made her first appearance for England’s Under-23s as she came off the bench in the second half in their 1-0 win over Portugal on Tuesday.
Araya Dennis made substitute appearances in both fixtures for the Under-19s as they got off to the perfect start in their Algarve Cup campaign with victories over the Netherlands and Norway.
