As much as no one wants to see Kevin De Bruyne leave Manchester City, it does appear that the City legend’s time at the club is drawing to a close. Age and injuries have finally appeared to catch up to De Bruyne. He has struggled to make an impact since suffering an injury against Inter Milan in September. Now a new report indicates that De Bruyne could leave Manchester City at the end of this season. As much as it is something no one associated with Manchester City wants to see, perhaps it is the right time for De Bruyne to depart.

Rudy Galetti has reported for TeamTalk that Kevin De Bruyne could leave Manchester City at the end of the season. Furthermore, Galetti reports that the United States is looming as De Bruyne’s preferred destination if he leaves Manchester City. Galetti adds that the new MLS franchise, San Diego FC, is leading the race to sign De Bruyne. Inter Miami are also a contender to sign the Belgian international as per Galetti’s report.

What has become apparent this season is that a rebuild is coming for Pep Guardiola’s side. The longer this season has progressed the more obvious it is to see. The time is coming when discussions need to be had over several of Manchester City’s key contributors. Kevin De Bruyne is one of those. Perhaps the end of this season is the right time for De Bruyne to leave the club.

No one wants to see De Bruyne leave. But is he part of Manchester City’s next era of dominance? That’s the question that needs to be answered. If he isn’t then perhaps it is time for De Bruyne to call time on his City career. Based on how this season has unfolded that may be best for all concerned. De Bruyne looks to have lost a yard of pace and injuries do look to have caught up to the City legend. There’s no shame in that as De Bruyne’s legacy as a Manchester City and Premier League great is secure. But now Manchester City have to plan for the future and perhaps De Bruyne isn’t a part of that.

That remains to be seen. But you do now get the sense that De Bruyne is nearing the end of his time at Manchester City. If that proves to be the case it will be a sad day when he does depart. But he does appear to have options and the MLS is looming as his next destination.
