Jose Mourinho did little to hide his frustration after being sent off for his touchline antics during Fenerbahce's draw with Manchester United in the Europa League on Thursday night.

The former Red Devils boss was sent to the stands for protesting after Bright Osayi-Samuel was denied a penalty following a tackle from Manuel Ugarte. He was later seen sat on a step behind the home dugout directing his coaching staff as he tried to improvise a winner.

The game finished 1-1 after Youssef En-Nesyri equalised following Christian Eriksen's opener and, though Mourinho claimed he didn't want to speak about the alleged penalty incident too much, he hinted heavily at his own displeasure with referee Clement Turpin's performance.

"I watched the incident. I don't want to speak about it," Mourinho told TNT Sports.

"He told me something incredible. At the same time, he could see the action in the box and my behaviour on the touchline. I congratulate him because he's absolutely incredible.

"During the game, at 100 miles per hour, he had one eye on the penalty situation, and he had one eye on the bench and on my behaviour.

"That's the explanation he gave me. That's why he is one of the best referees in the world."

The draw keeps Fenerbahce two points ahead of United, who now have three draws following previous ties with Twente and Porto, but Mourinho insisted his old side will still qualify for the knockout rounds of the newly revamped Europa League.

The 61-year-old added: "I know you [media] will say Man Utd didn't play well. But why didn't they have shots, why weren't they good enough? My players deserve credit for that performance.

"They will qualify. The point for them is a positive point. It is difficult to play here. Porto is the same. I think they did well. If they win the next match they have six. A point for them is positive."
