Chelsea’s transfer business is generating quite a lot of criticism at the moment, and rightly so. The focus seems to be on profits over trophies, and if this latest story is true, there will be no denying it anymore.
Young Andrey Santos has been tearing it up on loan with Strasbourg in Ligue 1, and Chelsea fans can’t wait to see him in their team next season. That has been the plan all along, as far as most insiders are saying. Ben Jacobs said as recently as this morning that Chelsea wouldn’t entertain offers.
But there’s a claim out there today from Fraser Fletcher for TeamTalk which says that Chelsea would consider selling him in the summer, if the price was right.
He’s got 8 goals and 3 assists in 21 games this season, in his first full season at a club in Europe. That’s a sensation return for a 20 year old, especially one who is properly box to box, not an attacking midfielder. It might need to be Real Madrid or someone, as Santos’ value must be through the roof now.

There’s just no way this can be true. The sporting directors are already very unpopular with a growing section of the fanbase, such a move would alienate the remainder and turn those already frustrated totally mutinous.
The frustration about Santos’ situation is already widespread – why was he loaned out when we could have done with a midfielder of his profile, and beyond that, why was he not recalled last month when the need for him was clear?
If those decisions were followed by an even more short sighted move to sell him for profit, we might actually get pitchforks outside Stamford Bridge. Fortunately, we don’t think it’s on the cards.
