Simply unstoppable. Rafa was surfing again last night, and what a time to do it. AC Milan claimed victory at the Bernabéu and Leão shone as the Rossoneri beat the holders by three goals to one. The Diavolo's goals came from Thiaw, Morata and Reijnders - the latter from an assist from our Portuguese number 10 - on a brilliant night for Rossoneri everywhere.
He was a constant threat, ran hard and played with a spirit of self-sacrifice. His dribbling caused problems out wide for Real all night long and he often dropped deep to help out Theo in defence too. This is his first award of the season, and both a deserved and important one following a dip in form. His display over 78 minutes at the Bernabéu - before being replaced by Okafor - showed the true Rafa Leão, the one that the fans and his teammates want to see.
What a game it was. In the 39th minute, his effort tested Lunin, who couldn't hold it, before Morata prodded it home. In the 73rd minute, he turned on the afterburners and fed Reijders perfectly to make it three. The assist capped off his performance but Rafa was at the heart of everything AC Milan did last night. The stats prove as much: two shots on target, including a brilliant header that drew a stunning save from Lunin, two big chances created, three progressive dribbles completed, as well as five recoveries and two fouls won.
In the fan poll on the AC Milan Official App, Leão beat two of the goalscorers and Mike Maignan. The French goalkeeper was only beaten from the penalty spot but was otherwise impervious to Los Blancos' attempts. Tijjani Reijnders was on the third run of the podium, ahead of Álvaro Morata, who scored against his former club to make it 2-1. Bravo Rafa, keep it up!
