Leeds United have been linked with both Tammy Abraham and Cameron Archer in recent months

Paul Robinson has urged Leeds United to priortise the pursuit of Tammy Abraham this summer instead of Cameron Archer.

It was reported by TBR Football in February that the Whites are keeping tabs on the 27-year-old ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Alex Crook claimed in January that the Yorkshire outfit had a pursuit of Archer rejected, with a deal failing to come to fruition before the winter market closed.

The Southampton forward has scored just twice from 24 appearances in the Premier League so far this season, with the club in serious danger of relegation back to the Championship.

Robinson believes that Leeds should prioritise the signing of Abraham instead of Archer this summer, unless they’re able to get both.

He claimed that Archer hasn’t shown he’s good enough for the Premier League this season, suggesting the AC Milan forward would be a much more exciting addition to Daniel Farke’s side.

“Southampton overpaid for Archer,” said Robinson, via Football Insider.

“He’s made 24 appearances so far this season with just two goals, that’s not clinical.

“If you look at his record at Villa, Middlesbrough, Sheffield United and now Southampton, with Leeds potentially going up to the Premier League next year…

“There have been links to signing Tammy Abraham.

“That link would be a lot more exciting than the potential move to sign Archer.

“He’s proven in Serie A and proven in the Premier League, he’s a player that understands the league and has done well previously there.

“Cameron Archer is a good player, he’s still only 23, but you can’t rely on him to get the goals.

“I think if you’re buying him, you’re buying another one as well.

“You’re not relying on him to get the goals you want.

“If you sign him alongside Abraham and have them together, then yeah, but not as a singular signing to play up front on his own.”

Leeds are in a strong position to gain automatic promotion back to the Premier League this season, with Farke’s side top of the table and eight points clear of third place Burnley.

Next up for the Whites is a trip to Fratton Park to take on Portsmouth on 9 March.

Abraham signing would be an exciting prospect

Leeds are likely going to lose at least one of Patrick Bamford, Mateo Joseph and Joel Piroe this summer, potentially even two, so will need to reinforce their forward options.

Abraham would be a really exciting move, even if this hasn’t been his most prolific campaign with Milan.

He has previously performed quite well in Serie A, including a 17-goal campaign with AS Roma, and has Premier League experience he can also bring to the squad.
