Massimo Moratti admits that he “very nearly had a heart attack” while watching his old team Inter Milan take on Barcelona in the Champions League.
The legendary former Nerazzurri President gave his thoughts to Italian newspaper Quotidiano Sportivo, via FCInterNews, after watching the Nerazzurri in the thrilling semifinal tie.
It was not a victory that came easy for the Nerazzurri, however.
After three hours of football, Inter and Barcelona had both scored six goals each. The first leg ended 3-3, and it was the same after the ninety minutes of the second leg.
Inter then went on to settle the tie in extra time, with Davide Frattesi scoring the decisive goal.
Meanwhile, both Inter and Barcelona had to stage comebacks within the tie. The momentum had seemingly shifted the way of the Blaugranas right at the end, but Francesco Acerbi scored in stoppage time of the second leg.

Legendary former Inter President Massimo Moratti said that his former team “gave me an early birthday present.”
“I’m celebrating on the sixteenth. But I’ve already blown out with candles with Marotta and Zanetti.”
“Even though I very nearly had a heart attack!” Moratti said. “Just like everyone who loves Inter, I imagine.”
Moratti admitted that there was “unspeakable suffering” while watching the tie.
“But it was also an act of justice.”
“Taking both the first and second leg, Inter had something more,” Moratti argued. “They kept their heads, even when everything seemed over.”
“They always believed,” the former Inter President continued.
“We saw something unprecedented. A two-legged Champions League semifinal that ended 7-6.”
“Without going to penalties, it was something massive,” said Moratti.
Meanwhile, Moratti described defender Francesco Acerbi as “the symbol of this Inter side.”
