The four sides are looking to add some top-tier talent to their rosters.
Derby County, Leicester City, Millwall and Wrexham are all reportedly interested in signing Manchester United youngster Jack Kingdon.
With the summer transfer window fast approaching, next year's Championship alumni are all readying their plans to make steps forward this summer.
Unsurprisingly, given the competitive nature of the Championship, every window leads to second tier clubs fighting with each other over the same talent, and this summer is set to be no different.
Kingdon, 19, has caught the eye of the quartet who are all keen to bring the soon-to-be free agent in before the start of next term, according to Graeme Bailey.
The Man United youngster joined the Red Devils as a 16-year-old from Morecambe and has already got some men's first-team experience under his belt in the non-leagues.
He spent the second half of this campaign on loan with National League side Rochdale, who he started nine times for and made a further seven appearances from the bench. He also spent some time with Altrincham in the 2022/23 season.
In financial terms, newly relegated City should be able to blow their competition out of the water, in theory.
Ipswich Town, Leicester and Southampton are set to receive more than £90 million in parachute payments over the next two seasons, as per The Athletic. But, surprisingly, they are expected to face competition from Wrexham in the transfer market, who are coming up from League One to the Championship for the first time since it was rebranded for the 2004/05 campaign.
According to Sky Sports, both the Hollywood-owned Red Dragons and the third tier champions, Birmingham City, are going to be able to compete with the Foxes and the two other relegated Premier League sides - Ipswich Town and Southampton - for players this summer.
Wrexham's comparative financial might is astounding. When they were in League Two a couple of seasons ago, they had a higher commercial revenue than a quarter of the teams in the Premier League, as per The Athletic. It was still £11 million less than Leicester's £31 million, but it's representative of just how much of a fiscal powerhouse they are going to be.
Shopping in the non-leagues is a lot more fruitful than it was in years gone by. The talent that lurks from Step 5 downwards is insane these days, and no better reflected by Wrexham's climb from the non-leagues to the Championship, albeit with some heavy financial backing, and the story of the Foxes' greatest ever player, Jamie Vardy, who rose to prominence via this route.
There are a lot of National League players that are worth a look at for a potential bargain deal, but Kingdon doesn't immediately stand out and fit into that category.
He did start Rochdale's last couple of games of the regular season, but his appearances in Jimmy McNulty's first XI didn't come on a consistent basis. That doesn't indicate that he could be a Championship-level footballer in the near future.
It could, however, represent a cost-effective and potentially-shrewd long-term move for any of these clubs, and Kingdon may perhaps envisage a swifter first-team route with the likes of Derby and Millwall.
