The Imps finished their League One term in 11th place, with back-to-back defeats against play-off readying Stockport County and promoted Wrexham putting a dampener on a strong vein of form towards the close of the season.

But, they are due a major boost ahead of the upcoming campaign, with a returning name to add to their line-up.

Street's return to Lincoln City after stellar loan spell

Striker Rob Street barely got a look-in at Lincoln over the course of his early days at the LNER Stadium, but has been revitalised by a loan stint since.

He spent the second half of the recent season on loan at Doncaster Rovers, where he netted 12 goals en route to a title-winning League Two campaign.

The former Crystal Palace youngster, who is still just 23, scored a dozen times across 22 fourth tier games for Grant McCann’s successful side.

He added a further strike in the EFL Trophy, with his goals often coming in important fixtures.

Street got the ball rolling as Doncaster won the game they needed to in order to secure promotion, beating Bradford City on the penultimate day of the term.

He then netted a brace in the final game of the season, seeing Rovers to the league title ahead of Port Vale.

Doncaster Rovers form a good indicator

Street’s Doncaster form is a good indicator for Lincoln. He enters the second of his four-year contract with the club, after joining from Cheltenham Town last summer, and has seen his stock rise as of late.

The forward played just 11 times for the Imps before he made his winter transfer window switch, with only six of those coming in league action.

He started just four games across all competitions, and played less than an hour of football in League One before his loan exit.

But, that is set to change in the 2025/26 term.

Street surely has renewed confidence after starring in Doncaster’s run to the League Two title, finding his name on the scoresheet at key times and being able to play in a number of positions.

That bodes well for Lincoln too, as not only has Street proved himself a target man and, through the middle, he has played on the right flank for Rovers. Most of his success came as the number nine, but having that flexibility will not go amiss when he returns to his parent club, who already have depth in forward areas.

With the consistent James Collins and young duo of Freddie Draper and Jovon Makama set to be battling it out for the same spots in the Imps team, it is not a given that Street will have the opportunities to re-find his lofty Doncaster form.

Although his return no doubt boosts Lincoln. In Street, City have a now-proven EFL striker and one that provides a fresh, pacey and capable option in the front-line. They are set to feel the full effect of his Doncaster loan.
