Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has revealed what he liked about the Trent Alexander-Arnold experiment during the international break.

Although instead of operating in midfield, he was tasked with the left-back role with the license to venture into the middle of the park and his performance earned him the man-of-the-match award - the third time this has happened in Lee Carsley’s four matches at the helm.

But what did Slot make of Alexander-Arnold being played at left-back?

Well, when speaking ahead of Liverpool's Premier League clash against Chelsea, the Dutchman noted the defensive improvement from the 26-year-old and jokingly challenged the full-back to start turning in some man-of-the-match performances at club level.

"I only saw the free-kick. Good players will always find a way into the team if they have good team-mates, which is what Trent has at England," Slot said. "If you play Finland and Greece, with respect, these quality players will play well. Although they lost to Greece.

"He's been very good for us until now. He was and still important when attacking and I liked the way he has defended too. He has made a step up in that perspective. But like all the others, room for improvement, that is clear. I think he has done well for us this season and the national team too.

"Three times from four Man of the Match. Let's hope he will be it for us too."

It's likely that Alexander-Arnold will return to his usual position at right-back as Liverpool welcome Chelsea to Anfield on Sunday as they go in search of the result that keeps them top of the Premier League table.
