The closing stages of the season, Arsenal the only team with a remote chance of catching Liverpool in the Premier League title run-in.

Meanwhile, Eddie Howe and Newcastle United one of the favourites to join Liverpool and Arsenal in the Champions League qualifying places.

United having already banked the first domestic trophy of the season.

Despite this, a tendency of some in the media and indeed a number of Newcastle United fans, to still make out that this has been a bit of an up and down season for NUFC, including in recent months.

So what is the reality?

I have looked at the last 21 domestic matches for Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle United, to see how they compare.

These 21 games covering roughly the last four months, so a really good timespan to judge longstanding form, basically the second half of the season played so far.

Liverpool

Arsenal

Played 21 Won 10 Drawn 7 Lost 4

Newcastle United

Played 21 Won 16 Drawn 0 Lost 5

It feels to me like no matter what has gone before, for certain Newcastle United fans, Eddie Howe and his players are just one bad result away from yet another ridiculous negative pile-on, especially from a number of clowns on YouTube.

What Eddie Howe and his squad have achieved this season, is simply astonishing.

Against all odds, producing these results and outperforming so many other club, especially these past four months, despite the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and other usual suspects having so many advantages, both financial and squad-wise.

When Eddie Howe gets proper backing in this upcoming summer transfer window, having had to endure three windows in a row with no new faces competing for the first team. Those painful transfer windows have though returned Newcastle United to a far better PSR position, allowing now Eddie Howe the chance to add some more quality first eleven players.
