Liverpool striker Diogo Jota is a doubt for Liverpool’s trip to Brentford having suffered yet another injury setback after his goal against Nottingham Forest.

The Portuguese international came off the bench to score a crucial equaliser in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest in midweek, but his involvement in that game appears to have come at a cost. Jota reported discomfort after the match and subsequently missed training on Thursday, raising concerns over his availability for the weekend.

Speaking ahead of the trip to the Gtech Community Stadium, Liverpool head coach Arne Slot provided an update on Jota’s condition.

“There’s no doubt that Jota is an important player for us,” Slot said. “He was not in training yesterday, so we must see where he is today. It’s not certain that he will be available for tomorrow. He felt a little niggle during the half-hour he played against Forest. He was able to finish the game, but afterwards, he complained about it.”

Jota’s Liverpool career has been plagued by injuries, with this season proving to be no different. The 28-year-old has managed just 11 starts in all competitions, having already missed a significant period due to a rib injury sustained against Chelsea in October.

While some initially hoped his absence from full training was simply precautionary, Slot confirmed that Jota had been following an individual programme designed to aid his recovery and prevent further issues.

“Every single player has an individual programme,” Slot explained. “Of course, there is an eye on Jota doing some individual work to prevent him from getting injured, but that applies to all players. There is a special programme for him, just as for everyone else.”

Luis Díaz was notably absent from Thursday afternoon’s training session at the AXA Training Centre, sparking concerns over a possible injury. However, Liverpool’s head coach quickly alleviated those worries, confirming that the winger was not injured but was instead feeling unwell.

Explaining Diaz’s issue, Slot said, “I assume he is [OK], yesterday he wasn’t allowed [at training] because he had, I think it was, a bit of a sore throat.

“But I assume he will be training with us today. But I still have to hear this, but we are expecting him to train with us today.”
