Arsenal’s failure to overcome West Ham and Liverpool’s subsequent victory over Manchester City extended their lead to 11 points at the top of the pile.

Conor Bradley isn’t in contention to play tonight with the full-back sidelined for a couple of weeks. However, Arne Slot announced that Alexis Mac Allister is fit to feature despite suffering bruising to his face against Manchester City. Cody Gakpo is poised to return after coming off the bench at the Etihad.

For Newcastle, Sven Botman is ‘touch and go’ to play at Anfield but Joelinton could make his return. Sandro Tonali has also recovered from a hamstring issue that restricted his involvement at the weekend.

Liverpool took a huge step towards the Premier League title after beating Manchester City at the Etihad on Sunday. The Reds capitalised on a slip from nearest challengers Arsenal to extend their advantage to 11 points. It was a professional performance from the table-toppers, as goals from Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai secured the points.

Salah’s goal and assist took him to 41 goal involvements in the Premier League this season. The Egyptian has become the first player in the league’s history to reach 40+ goals and assists in multiple campaigns (also 2017/18).

Newcastle: LWWLW

Newcastle reignited their Champions League ambitions after an engrossing win over third-place Nottingham Forest at the weekend. After going a goal down early on, the Magpies responded to race into a 4-1 lead at St James’ Park. However, a drop after the interval saw Forest set up a nervy finish with two goals in response. That result leaves Newcastle sixth in the table, two points adrift of the top four with a game in hand on Chelsea in fourth.

Alexander Isak scored twice in the win over Forest to reach 50 goals in the Premier League for Newcastle. He’s the seventh-fastest player in Premier League history to reach that milestone, achieving the feat in just 76 appearances.

Last Meeting: Newcastle 3-3 Liverpool, Premier League, 4th December 2024

Nothing could separate the two sides in the last encounter as they both contributed to a thrilling draw on Tyneside.

Alexander Isak fired Newcastle ahead with a stunning strike at St James’ Park, but Liverpool showed spirit to twice come from behind to lead. Curtis Jones levelled for Liverpool, before Anthony Gordon squeezed a shot past Caoimhín Kelleher to restore the host’s advantage.

Liverpool responded again. Mohamed Salah’s double looked to have turned the game around for the Merseysiders, until a late error from Kelleher saw the spoils shared. The Irishman misjudged a free-kick, allowing Fabian Schar to steer in a 90th-minute equaliser.
