London City got the only goal of the game at Bristol City, to leapfrog them into second position. Megan Campbell made the breakthrough for the Lionesses just after the hour mark.

Birmingham City stayed top of the table, with a 3-1 victory at basement side Portsmouth. Ava Baker charged down an attempted clearance from Pompey goalkeeper Hannah Poulter, to open the scoring midway through the first half.

Ellie Mason gave City a two-goal cushion 10 minutes into the second half, Sophie Quirk replied only for Cho So-Hyun to make it 3-1 moments later.

Sunderland were 2-0 winners at Southampton, as they moved up to fourth place.

Seven minutes after the interval, Emily Scarr found Eleanor Dale who turned her marker and shot into the bottom corner.

Scarr was again involved for the second goal in the latter stages, playing Katie Kitching through to finish.

Charlton Athletic won 2-1 away to Durham, now trailing the fifth-placed Wildcats by a single point.

The Addicks took the lead just before the break, Kayleigh Barton catching Tatiana Saunders off her line from distance.

Atlanta Primus doubled the lead with 15 minutes left on the clock, Sarah Wilson replying but deep into added time.

Next-to-bottom Sheffield United went one up inside the last 20 minutes, as Newcastle United debutant Charlotte Wardlaw conceded an own-goal.

But the visitors rescued a point in added time, when Lois Joel’s cross was met by a looping header from Rachel Furness.
