John Textor – and Olympique Lyonnais – are sticking by their word. The OL owner told Canal Plus that there was “no chance” that Rayan Cherki (21) would leave the club before the closure of the transfer window on Monday night. L’Équipe now understands that Les Gones have rejected an offer from Borussia Dortmund for the highly-rated academy product.
Cherki has been the subject of considerable transfer speculation this month. It has been no secret that OL have had to sell players this January. In order to avoid a punitive relegation to Ligue 2, Lyon needed to raise funds. Player sales was one way to do this. There have already been departures, notably in the form of Maxence Caqueret, Gift Orban, and Saïd Benrahma.
It means that OL don’t need to sell Cherki and so Lyon, who are determined to finish inside the UEFA Champions League places, want to keep him. As a result, an offer worth €22.5m from Borussia Dortmund has been rejected.
