Major Huddersfield Town, David Wagner development emerges

The Terriers could be about to welcome back one of their most beloved managers to the John Smith's Stadium.
Huddersfield Town have reportedly offered former manager David Wagner the opportunity to make a sensational return to the club.
That's according to journalist Alex Crook reporting via his X account on Wednesday, 7 May.
The 53-year-old has been out of work since leaving Norwich City in May 2024 following the Canaries' play-off semi-final defeat to Leeds United.
Wagner reigned over one of the most successful eras in Huddersfield Town's modern history, guiding them to Championship play-off final glory in the 2016/17 season, before recording a 16th-placed finish in the Premier League in the 2017/18 season.
As per a report from talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook, Huddersfield are believed to have offered Wagner the opportunity to reprise his managerial role at the John Smith's Stadium.
The Terriers sacked previous boss Michael Duff on 9 March following a run of four defeats from five League One games, and placed academy manager Jon Worthington in temporary charge for the remainder of the season.
Having dropped out of the Championship, the obvious remit for Huddersfield's season was to win promotion and an instant return back to the second tier.
However, having only been able to muster a 10th-placed finish in the third tier after a run of six straight defeats to end the campaign, and finishing 14 points adrift of sixth-placed Leyton Orient, the club evidently fell short of their targets this term.
However, if there's one man who knows what it takes to win promotion as Huddersfield Town boss, it's Wagner.
The former Borussia Dortmund coach was appointed as the club's new head coach in November 2015, with the club sitting in a perilous position towards the foot of the Championship table at the time.
However, after guiding the club to safety in the 2015/16 season, the Frankfurt-born boss would mastermind one of the most unforgettable seasons in Huddersfield Town's history the following year.
Having made some hugely impactful signings such as Elias Kachunga, Izzy Brown, Aaron Mooy, Chris Löwe and Christopher Schindler to name a few, the Terriers stunned the Championship and secured Premier League promotion via a penalty shootout win over Reading in the play-off final.
After achieving a 16th-placed finish in the top flight in their first season at the level since 1972, Wagner would eventually leave the club by mutual consent in January 2019.
In the years that have followed his departure, despite a brief successful 2021/22 season that saw them lose in the Championship play-off final to Nottingham Forest, the club has largely been on a steady decline.
With the atmosphere around the John Smith's Stadium in desperate need of an injection of optimism and excitement after a highly disappointing season, the return of one of the club's most beloved and successful gaffers would surely be unanimously welcomed by Huddersfield supporters.
Given Wagner was linked with being a potential candidate to take the Southampton job in recent days, his capture would not only be sentimental, but a highly shrewd one too given his managerial pedigree.
