Pep Guardiola has confirmed he has no fresh injury concerns to contend with as all his players came away from the game unscathed.

On Wednesday, Argentine Claudio Echeverri was officially unveiled by the club on social media. The 19-year-old initially joined in January 2024, but spent the last year on loan with boyhood club River Plate. City are expected to be patient with his development and he isn’t likely to be a prominent figure this season.

Manuel Akanji and John Stones won’t be ready to return to action until after the March international break.

Plymouth Argyle pulled off the upset of the fourth round as they prevailed over Premier League leaders Liverpool. Ryan Hardie netted the only goal of the match from the spot but misses the trip to Manchester with a back injury.

Brendan Galloway is out for the season with a hip problem with Joe Edwards also unlikely to travel.

Miron Muslic’s team are the lowest ranked team left in the competition – they sit in 22nd place in the Championship.

Form

Manchester City: LWLLW

City broke a two-match losing run on Wednesday night as they conquered Tottenham away from home. Pep Guardiola’s side had already lost twice to Spurs this campaign, but they were full value for their win in north London.

Erling Haaland marked his return to the starting line-up with the only goal of the game and arguably should’ve scored more.

With City being knocked out of the Champions League, the FA Cup is their only realistic chance of silverware. The seven-time winners will be looking to go one further this year after falling short in the final to local rivals Manchester United last term.

Plymouth Argyle: WWLDD

Plymouth are currently fighting hard to avoid relegation to League One. The Pilgrims have only lost once in their last seven matches and have drawn their last two games against fellow strugglers Luton and Cardiff.

This resurgence in form has seen Miron Muslic’s team climb off of bottom spot and go within three points of safety. The Austrian manager has already guided his players to two upset wins over Premier League opposition in the cup this campaign.

Argyle booked their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup by overcoming Liverpool at the start of February. That famous result has elevated their fortunes and the feeling around Home Park is much more optimistic.

Last Meeting

Manchester City 2-0 Plymouth Argyle, League Division Two, 25th February 1989

The two sides haven’t crossed paths for 36 years having last played each other in the old Second Division, or what is now known as the Championship.

Mel Machin’s City side collected the full complement of points at Maine Road courtesy of a 2-0 triumph.

Neil McNab opened the scoring with a penalty before missing from the spot later on in the contest. Wayne Biggins then doubled their advantage in bizarre circumstances in the second period to secure the victory.

That win took City to the summit of the table, where they remained until the end of the campaign to be crowned champions and earn promotion to the top flight.

Meanwhile, Plymouth remained in the second tier until 1992 when they were relegated under the stewardship of player/manager Peter Shilton.
