Pep Guardiola’s side out to avoid huge upset
Manchester City tonight begin their FA Cup tilt at home to League Two side Salford.
Pep Guardiola’s beat West Ham 4-1 last time out but the City boss insists his side are not back to their very best just yet.
While that victory made it two consecutive wins for the Premier League champions, it remains to be seen if they have fully turned the corner.
City, of course, will be strong favourites for the game but it’s a meeting dripping with narrative.
Salford are part-owned by Manchester United’s ‘Class of 92’ legends David Beckham, Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs, Phil Neville and Paul Scholes. They would surely love to inflict more misery on City.
Here’s everything you need to know about the game.
Man City vs Salford is scheduled for a 5.45pm GMT kick-off time today, Saturday, January 11, 2025.
The Etihad Stadium in Manchester will host.

City will likely make changes to the side, although it’s tough to imagine Guardiola playing just the kids given recent form.
Ederson is back in training and fit to start, but Ruben Dias and John Stones remain unavailable.
Oscar Bobb has now returned to first-team training as he builds towards making a first appearance of the season, but this match will come too soon.

There’s a huge amount of narrative of course but it’s too difficult to see City losing at home to a League Two side.
Even their third string should win comfortably, and Guardiola is expected to field some first-team starts to get the job done.
Man City to win, 3-0.
The two teams have never played.
Man City to win: 1/25
Salford to win: 40/1
