Manchester United’s precarious PSR position and the need to help Ruben Amorim in the market has meant INEOS might take a few ruthless calls in the summer.

Plenty of big-name stars could be sold in the summer, including Casemiro, whom the head coach really admires. As The Peoples Person has relayed, only four players are safe from the potential fire sale.

And academy graduates like Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo could both be sacrificed as homegrown products count as pure profit.

The midfielder is yet to agree a contract extension, which has cast further doubt on his future. He is reportedly asking for around £180,000 a week which INEOS do not want to pay as they try and reduce a bloated wage bill.

Mainoo wage demands

As The Daily Mail have now claimed, the Red Devils feel confident that a compromise can be reached between the club and the player.

Which indicates there is a greater chance of the England international staying at Old Trafford beyond this summer as compared to Alejandro Garnacho.

The report also mentions that Mainoo wants clarity from Amorim regarding his position in the team with the Portuguese tactician playing him deep in midfield as well as in the No 10 position and even up front.

“All we can say at the moment is that more talks have taken place recently and there seems to be a little more positivity around Kobbie Mainoo’s situation and future at United.

Compromise can be reached

“The contract issue has dragged on for some time now with no resolution. It isn’t just a financial matter, Mainoo wants to know where he fits into Ruben Amorim’s system. He has played as a defensive midfielder and in the No 10 role, with neither position a natural fit for the 20-year-old.

“He is the lowest-paid senior player in the United squad and wants parity with some of his teammates befitting a full England international. It’s understood that he is looking for around £180,000 a week, which doesn’t seem unreasonable given that one of his midfield partners, Casemiro, is on £375,000 a week.

“The situation has been complicated by United’s fragile financial state and the fact that homegrown players like Mainoo are worth 100 per cent profit on the balance sheet if sold.”

Chelsea are ready to swoop in case an agreement between United and the Carrington graduate cannot be found.

United have offered Mainoo five times his current wages in line with the raise Amad received this season, and hopefully, a compromise can be agreed soon.
