The Englishman’s high salary — around £350,000 per week — represents a serious obstacle to his sale. Thus, a loan, with part of the salary assumed by the club, is beginning to look like the most viable solution.

Is It A Good Decision?

From a critical perspective, Manchester City face a crossroad. Keeping an expensive player who is not part of the sporting project is not practical. However, letting him go on loan, subsidising part of his salary, is not a good deal either. The most reasonable thing would be to find a club interested in a permanent transfer, even if it means reducing the transfer fee.

If a loan puts him in a favourable environment, where he feels important again, his value could increase and benefit City later on.
