Manchester United have altered their Europa League squad ahead of this evening’s clash with Real Sociedad at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have included centre-back Tyler Fredricson and attacking midfielder James Scanlon to their UEFA ‘B’ list ahead of the deadline for this evening’s clash.
Fredricson has already trained with the first team this season and was in the matchday squad for the Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur last month.
The 20-year-old’s inclusion could be due to the injuries to defenders Harry Maguire and Lenny Yoro. Manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed the duo will miss today’s game with Sociedad.
Despite being involved in some of their training sessions, Scanlon has yet to play in a match or make the matchday squad for United’s first team.
The left-winger has been a standout for the U18s, chipping in with 13 goals and four assists in 13 league games. He has scored in the last two league games for Adam Lawrence’s side.
Amorim has multiple attacking options for today’s clash with Sociedad, but Scanlon could still make the matchday squad.
Chido Obi is the latest academy player to play for the first team. Fredricson and Scanlon could follow in his footsteps.
Jayce Fitzgerald, Daniel Gore and Toby Collyer are among the other academy players who have made the matchday squad in this competition this season.
Collyer is the only one to have featured. The English midfielder started the home game against Rangers and has made two other appearances as a substitute.
