Manchester United squad behind Ruben Amorim despite the ‘absolute grimness’ of their season | OneFootball

Manchester United players are backing manager Ruben Amorim to get things right at the club despite their struggles in 2024/25.

According to journalist Andy Mitten, the squad are fully behind Amorim despite what has been ‘a tale of absolute grimness’ this season.

While the United boss will be happy to hear he hasn’t lost the dressing room, the players’ support for him is no surprise.

Ultimately, almost every first-team squad member faces an uncertain future due to their collective failures this term.

They are unlikely to stick their head above the parapet, given that Amorim would be justified in shipping most of them out of Old Trafford.

Amorim looked like a beaten man after last night’s defeat by Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final in Bilbao.

However, it is not all doom and gloom for United if Amorim is allowed to make widespread changes to the squad this summer.

He will reportedly be handed a transfer kitty of around £100 million to kick things off. Player sales will help to swell the coffers.

Around ten players could leave this summer. If Amorim brings in five or six new faces and promotes some of the club’s promising youngsters, the squad will look significantly different.

While that is no guarantee of success, what he achieved at Sporting CP when the squad was tailored to suit his favoured system is worth noting.

Having easily won the Portuguese title in 2023/24, Amorim’s side won 16 and drew one of their 18 matches at the start of this season.

Those efforts persuaded United that he was the right man to take the club forward. He has subsequently won 16 of his 41 games in charge.

Although that record is concerning, it is worth noting that Sporting have won 20 of their 36 matches since Amorim left the club.

If United can revitalise their squad this summer, Amorim may prove why the club was eager to secure his services.
