Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich has on Friday been tipped to link up with La Liga giants Barcelona once more.
This comes amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding the plans of the German international for next season.
Kimmich’s terms at the Allianz Arena are due to expire in the summer of 2025, with the 29-year-old, to date, having rebuffed the efforts of the Bayern brass towards a renewal.
A whole host of leading clubs from across the continent, in turn, have been rumoured as ready to launch moves for Kimmich following the turn of the year.
And, as alluded to above, on Friday, one such outfit have been tipped to beat out the competition.
Speaking during an interview with ‘Abendzeitung’, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthäus hinted at Kimmich potentially following former headmaster Hansi Flick to Barcelona:
“Bayern have a great team, a great style of play and a great atmosphere. But maybe Kimmich wants to try something different. We know that at Barcelona there is a coach, Hansi Flick, who holds him in very high regard…”
Matthäus continued:
“I think it would be a shame if he were to leave Bayern. He is an exemplary professional and, together with Musiala, he will be the face of the club in the future. Therefore, it would be a big loss if another top player, after Alaba, were to leave on a free transfer. His situation has changed under Kompany. We need to put the past behind us and try to reach an agreement.”
