Middlesbrough are pushing to beat Burnley to the signature of Plymouth Argyle attacker Morgan Whittaker as they fear losing Emmanuel Latte Lath and possibly Ben Doak this month, according to journalist Alan Nixon.
Latte Lath is drawing attention from MLS side Atlanta United, who are desperate to bring in a new striker to back boss Ronny Deila.
Doak, on loan from Liverpool, is wanted by several sides and Boro are concerned the Reds could recall him and then cash in.
It is Plymouth’s Whittaker they are now eyeing and Middlesbrough are offering half of Argyle’s £10m asking price, plus add-ons to boost it up.
Whether that is enough for the Home Park side remains to be seen, but Whittaker could be tempted by a Riverside switch.
Burnley have already failed with an offer for Whittaker and remain keen to take him to Turf Moor.
Middlesbrough want to make sure their bid to win promotion remains on track and feel that the Argyle forward can help with that.
Boro currently sit in seventh spot in the Championship standings, just outside the playoff spots.
