VfL Wolfsburg striker Mohamed Amoura has been drawing attention from around the Bundesliga, as well as other top European clubs, for months. Bayer Leverkusen appear to be the frontrunners in the push to sign the Algerian international, following a decent performance in the 2024/25 season with Die Wölfe, on loan from Union Saint-Gilloise.

Amoura contributed ten goals and nine assists for the Niedersachsen club, over thirty-one appearances in the German top flight. The Leverkusen management believes that Amoura will fit the playing style of whoever replaces Xabi Alonso as coach, because of his speed, creativity, and how he reads the game.

Amoura recently received praise from around Germany because of these features, setting up Lukas Nmecha for the deciding goal in the fiftieth minute of the 1-0 victory against Borussia Mönchengladbach.

With Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong both appearing to be leaving the club in the summer for high transfer fees, Leverkusen will have money to spend, and are looking at a signing in the range of €40 million to €50 million. This has been a price that Leverkusen have been evaluating since March, as AZ/WAZ reported that they would be interested in paying €50 million.

They may be competing with a few top European clubs for Amoura's signature. Most of them are from the Premier League; Nottingham Forest have not made an offer yet, but continue to be linked. It was reported in February that Liverpool wanted to sign both Amoura and Greek defender Konstantinos Koulierakis for over €70 million combined, but an offer has not been made by Arne Slot's side - Arsenal and Eintracht Frankfurt have also shown interest, but they have not sent any proposals to Wolfsburg either.

Amoura remains under contract to Wolfsburg for four more years, after being permanently; however, the club is known for developing players and then selling for decent profits. Peter Christiansen, managing director at the club, said that there was “no chance that he is leaving VfL” - however, sporting director Sebastian Schindelorz mentioned that there are certain players that they might be interested in hearing offers about.

The summer transfer window will have a brief preliminary period from 1 June and 10 June due to the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup tournament taking place next month. At that time, clubs can send their proposals to Wolfsburg, and bids can be made or finalised.
