Manchester United have seemingly pipped their noses in front of arch-rivals Liverpool in the sides’ pursuit of Milos Kerkez.

Both Premier League giants had set their sights on the Bournemouth starlet in hopes of putting a definitive end to their respective left-back woes.

For United, they’ve reportedly accepted that Luke Shaw’s relentless injury sufferings have made him too unreliable to call upon throughout the course of a campaign. His last start for the club came on February 18, and he has since made only three appearances –  all of which came under Ruben Amorim in 2024/2025 before he sustained yet another setback.

From Arne Slot’s point of view, Andy Robertson’s fluctuating form has proven to be a weak point since he got the Merseyside outfit up and running. Liverpool sit comfortably atop the table after their opening 16 matches, but you’d expect that, if the funds became available, they’d push for the Scotsman’s successor.

They may have to consider options other than Kerkez, however, as Fabrizio Romano has hinted that United have the upper hand in regards to prising the 21-year-old from the Vitality Stadium.

“For Milos Kerkez, I think keep an eye on Manchester United because Man United are also looking at that position,” he told the Men in Blazers podcast.

“Man United, I’m told, are more concrete than Liverpool in this monitoring activity for Milos Kerkez.”

One thing’s for sure with any interested side: they’ll be made to fork out the big bucks. The Cherries are reluctant to part ways with Kerkez, who was previously hailed as ‘one of Europe’s brightest talents’, and will make any club meet their demands if they’re made to sanction his exit in 2025.

Bournemouth paid £15.5 million to sign the Hungarian from AZ Alkmaar in 2023. He has since accumulated 45 top-flight appearances, scoring once and assisting a further three goals.
