Thomas Tuchel has announced his inaugural England squad this morning, marking the official start of his tenure as Three Lions manager following his appointment in January and he has included Arsenal’s 18-yearold, Myles Lewis-Skelly along with Declan Rice.
Lewis-Skelly has previously represented England at u16, u17, u18 and u19 level.
The teenager has 28 appearances for Arsenal this season, playing in all competitions.
While Ethan Nwaneri was said to be under consideration in Tuchel’s 50-man shortlist, he has not been selected. He will, however, be included in the England u21 squad for the first time.
Rice will be hoping he can earn his 63rd and 64th caps during the upcoming international break.
The FA has entrusted Tuchel with the task of ending England’s major tournament drought, stretching back to 1966, after securing him on an 18-month contract that runs through the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
His reign begins next week with back-to-back World Cup qualifiers at Wembley, as Albania (21 March) and Latvia (24 March) arrive in quick succession.
In recent weeks, Tuchel was in contact with a wide pool of players, initially compiling a 55-man shortlist before finalising his squad.
With England’s new era officially underway, Tuchel faces the immediate challenge of shaping a squad capable of delivering success on the international stage, balancing youth with experience as he looks to build towards 2026.
