New Year's Day preview

Image de l'article :New Year's Day preview

To begin, wishing a happy New Year to all Spurs fans across the globe. Hope it is a successful year for you, your family – and Tottenham Hotspur. There is no Premier League football for Spurs (thank goodness), and most teams – but there is another full slate across the EFL – and therefore for plenty of Spurs loanees. Let’s see how it all shapes up.

How the New Year's Day slate looks for Tottenham loanees

In the Championship, Dane Scarlett and his Oxford United side are in action on the road, where they face Millwall. Spurs academy graduate Japhet Tanganga is a key player for the hosts, and scored in the reverse fixture a few weeks back. Under new manager Gary Rowett, Oxford have won two games in a row – though Scarlett has seen the pitch for a total of three minutes in those games.

Meanwhile, Ashley Phillips and his Stoke City side travel to Burnley, whom are managed by former Spurs midfielder Scott Parker. The Clarets are third in the league, so this is nearly as tough as it gets. Kick off times are 13:00 and 15:00 GMT respectively. Interim manager Ryan Shawcross is set to take this game, having overseen a huge 1-0 win over Sunderland last time out.

This could perhaps be the defender's last game for Stoke, with talk that Spurs are considering recalling the teenager in January - amidst the ridiculous injury list in defence.

As for League One, Josh Keeley, Jamie Donley, and their Leyton Orient side make the trip to the South West to face lowly Bristol Rovers. In their win over Cambridge United last time out, Keeley set a club record of seven consecutive clean sheets. Matthew Craig’s Barnsley side are in action at home to Wrexham – though it is quite possible that the young midfielder has played his last game for the club. Both games are 15:00 GMT kick offs.

In League Two, George Abbott will be looking to add to his goals in back to back games, as Notts County host table topping Walsall. In those two games that the teenager scored in, Notts came out as victors – making it three wins in a row, which has propelled them all the way up to second in the League Two table.

Reminder for anyone wondering: The Belgian Pro League and La Liga are currently on a winter break, so there is no action for loanees Luka Vuskovic, Alfie Devine, and KVC Westerlo, Bryan Gil and Girona, nor Alejo Veliz and RCD Espanyol until mid-January.
