Some interesting odds on Premier League top four (and other possibilities) for the 2024/25 season where Newcastle United are concerned.

With bookies taking stock after the Boxing Day results, including that NUFC thrashing of Aston Villa.

A dominant performance seeing United win 3-0 and it could/should have been more.

That win coming in the eighteenth PL round of matches.

The bookies and punters reacting to how things now stand in the Premier League table (see below), as well of course, how they are now seeing the underlying strengths of the various teams and squads.

Listed below are the general Premier League odds now available from the various bookies for the 2024/25 season (in brackets are what the odds were after the opening round of PL games):

Win the Premier League:

1/3 (13/2) Liverpool

4/1 (9/5) Arsenal

18/1 (40/1) Chelsea

50/1 (11/8) Man City

250/1 (1,500/1) Forest

400/1 (40/1 Newcastle United

500/1 (66/1) Aston Villa

1,000/1 (33/1) Tottenham

1,000/1 (28/1) Man U

1,000/1 (200/1) Brighton

So Newcastle United now rated sixth most ‘likely’.

At the very top, Liverpool remain very strong favourites, with Arsenal seen by the bookies as the only serious potential threat, after Chelsea’s dramatic late defeat at home to Fulham. Manchester City now distant 50/1 fourth favourites as they could only draw at home to Everton, Forest fifth favourites after yet another victory, this time over Spurs.

This is how the Premier League table looks today (Friday 27 December 2024):

Premier League relegation:

1/20 (1/1) Southampton

2/5 (10/11) Ipswich

2/5  (1/2) Leicester

9/4 (7/2) Wolves

5/1 (5/2) Everton

10/1 (12/1) Man City

12/1 (10/1) Palace

33/1 (7/1) Brentford

50/1 (20/1) West Ham

150/1 (250/1) Man U

300/1 (40/1) Brighton

500/1 (3/1) Forest

500/1 (200/1) Villa

500/1 (11/2) Fulham

500/1 (7/1) Bournemouth

500/1 (40/1) Chelsea

500/1 (250/1) Tottenham

500/1 (250/1) Newcastle United

2,500/1 (2,000/1) Arsenal

4,000/1 (2,000/1) Liverpool

Eddie Howe’s team now seen as joint third least likely to go down in the 2024/25 season.

If you are wondering about the Man City 10/1 odds of relegation, this is due to the possibility (probability?) of severe punishment from the 115 Premier League charges they face, which could include amongst other sanctions, points deduction or even relegation. That case is ongoing. Though there again, the way their current form is going on the pitch as well now…

Finish Premier League top four:

1/200 (1/2) Liverpool

1/25 (1/9) Arsenal

1/10 (9/4) Chelsea

8/11 (1/7) Man City

5/1 (9/4) Newcastle United

15/2 (100/1) Forest

9/1 (7/2) Villa

11/1 (9/4) Tottenham

16/1 (2/1) Man U

16/1 (66/1) Bournemouth

18/1 (11/1) Brighton

28/1 (66/1) Fulham

200/1 (66/1) Brentford

This is where, like me, I guess you will be giving most focus.

Can Newcastle United bounce back into the Premier League top four and get Champions League football?

Well, the bookies now have NUFC fifth most likely after that huge win over Villa.

Next match is on Monday at Old Trafford, what a huge game that now looks.
